Morning Meeting and Calendar Time

Picture

Most mornings we begin our day with a morning meeting in the playroom.  We attempt to pray together, go through a daily calendar time routine, review our Heart Checklist, read a Bible story and sing some songs.  Some days are more successful than others (to say the least...), but I really like starting our day all together.  After our morning meeting, Ju- Ju heads to her room to work on her first few work boxes independently, while I lead the younger girlies in some preschool / tot school activities.

This is Roo's work space.  To the left is a picture of Roo's work boxes. I fill these with new hands-on toys and activities every week (or so).  To make these boxes, I used empty wipe boxes (we have a ton!) I covered them with contact paper and secured the paper in place with colored duct tape.  I then put on Velcro dots with numbers to place on her work box grid.  (She doesn't entirely get the concept of this yet, but I didn't want her to feel left out!)  To the right is a picture of Roo's desk, cork board, supply box and work box grid.

June Bug and Leila each have their own work space.  I got these white "desks" (a.k.a. end tables) on Craig's List for $15 total!  Each girl has her own work box set- up and grid (you can read more about that here...eventually), cork board with the Letter of the Week and supply box.

I decided to change June Bug and Ju- Ju's bedroom a bit to better accommodate our new homeschooling routine.  I was hoping to create a fun learning space for Ju- Ju that was bright and light-filled and separated enough from the craziness of the little girls that Ju- Ju could concentrate a bit more, but not too far away to feel left out.  This set up has seemed to work well thus far.  We got this loft bed this past summer.  It took forever to put together (think 8 hours), and was a bit of a splurge, but I love that it freed up more floor space without being too high up.  I was worried about the little girls getting themselves into trouble with the height of a traditional loft bed, but really wanted to save on floor / wall space.  This bed has worked out perfectly.
