After shoveling ourselves out of two feet of snow this weekend due to the snowstorm, Nemo, we had a busy week celebrating Rob's birthday and Valentine's Day. I have never been a huge supporter of this "holiday," but I will say it was so endearing to see the girls create, give and receive valentines. They really got into it and were so excited to show off their hard work! On Wednesday, the girls worked hard to help me make a chocolate "Tuxedo" cake per Rob's request for his birthday. It sure was yummy! May Fly was bummed to miss the actual baking of this cake, but she was glad to get a chance to eat some! After her first bite, she said, "Yum!" It was quite cute! I am definitely all sweet-ed out, however. Wowee! This week marks the end of our, "Break for Love." Next week we will begin our new theme, starting off by learning about castles, crowns and princesses. I am excited! Ju- Ju has her Winter Break next week, so she will be spending all her week days here. I have tried to plan some fun activities for her level too. See you next week! |

ART CONNECTION: Heart-Stamped Paintings
JUST FOR FUN: Hide and Seek Heart Game
This game was a favorite activity of all the girls. Roo even got into it, say "Uh" and pointing to where she saw a card! The girls took turn hiding the hearts around the room and then we all had to find them. We practiced our counting out loud after finding all our cards. We started out the week with eight heart cards. By the end of the week, we were only counting to five, however, because we seem to have lost three of our cards. Those girls are good hiders!!! |
MONTESSORI- INSPIRED WORK BOXES
Counting Hearts Clothespin Activity I saw this activity on a few mom blog's and decided to give it a try. I am hoping to focus on counting and number recognition over these next few weeks. This is a good activity for that, as well as a great fine motor exercise. The grasp needed to squeeze a clothespin is the same grasp needed to hold a pencil! I wrote the number 1-5 on a piece of cardboard with the appropriate number of hearts. The girls had to count and clip the clothespins onto each of the hearts. I didn't even have to demonstrate this one to June Bug. She helped herself to this work box first thing Monday morning and mastered it! Find the Pairs Puzzle This puzzle is a great for connecting relationships between objects. May Fly and June Bug really enjoyed finding the matching pairs. They would work on this independently and together. They even came up with some other relationships between the objects beyond the puzzle. Very impressive! Magnetic Pom-Poms |
