We had a fabulous start to our home schooling year! Each week, as part of the younger girls' curriculum, God's Little Explorers: A - Z Adventures in God's Word and World for Preschoolers, a new lower case letter is introduced. The Letter of the Week for our first week of school was 'x.' We focused on how God's word, the Bible, is a treasure, and how we are going to explore God's creation this year together. Each girl was equipped with binoculars (check out how we made these here), and a tool box loaded with supplies for our school year. I decided to color-code each girl, so we can better keep track of which stuff belongs who. Before the school year started, I asked the girls what color they wanted to be. Ju - Ju chose light blue, June Bug chose orange, Leila chose purple, and the girls, on behalf of Roo, choose pink for Roo. This has proven to be very helpful so far. The girls' plates, water bottles and washcloths are also color-coded. It has been fun! The girls have greater ownership and responsibility for "their" things, and it has been cute to see Roo now associate colors with her favorite people. :) For example, when she sees orange she will lovingly say, "Owh! Lella!" (Her nickname for her sister!)
Letter of the Week: x
As suggested in the curriculum we are using, we made a treasure map to hang on the wall above June Bug and Leila's workspace. Each week, as we move through the alphabet, the girls will create a letter square to glue onto their treasure map.
